Habari?
Right from the beginning our journey was hopeful. Because of coincidental congestion, Air Canada offered me and Jamie a $500 flying voucher each to take a later flight. And upon arrival in Tanzania, it was nice to have all our luggage arrive, unlike last year.
So far we have been able to visit with the people whom we were working with last year. They greeted us with warm hospitality. We have also met up with Sarah Switzer (our leader last year) who is living in Tanga working with ACTS (Africa Community Technical Service) and Under the Reading Tree. Jamie and I are staying with Sarah in Tanga until the rest of the team arrives, then we will move in with host families.
Meeting Mr. Shayo, our team’s Tanzanian supervisor, has been so great. He is more experienced than I thought, very organized and very enjoyable to be around. His passion is working with young adults, and I can tell he has spent a lifetime learning how to relate to them. In the next few days he will be taking me and Jamie to meet church officials, volunteer placements, and host families.
So far our expectations have been superseded, which is usually not the case.
Please pray that our preparations and introductions continue to go well. Also pray that the rest of our team (Arend, Sara, Stelna and Ollie) finish all their preparations before coming. And keep all of us in mind during these next few weeks as we adjust to the culture and get aquainted with our Tanzanian counterparts.
Thank you, friends in Christ, for making all of this possible.

Wow! I had no idea you each received $500 vouchers! That's awesome... way to go!
ReplyDeleteSounds like everything is going amazing. I'm so happy you are building such a great relationship with Mr. Shayo. We're praying for you here. Your team was the feature photo/item on the all-staff "intercomm" email this morning!
All the best,
Kara
